INTRO

Caledonia Pride travel to South Yorkshire this weekend, facing FLT Petermans Sheffield Hatters in their third away fixture of 2020.

The team will be hoping to build some momentum following last weekend’s 49-57 win against BA London Lions.

THE OPPOSITION: SHEFFIELD

Sheffield currently sit mid-table in the WBBL Championship with a record of 6-3 over the opening nine games.

Hatters have been involved in some close games this season, coming away with single digit wins versus Manchester Mystics, 72-79, and Durham Palatinates, 78-72 . The team have also experienced some narrow losses this season, with Newcastle Eagles and Leicester Riders both picking up wins.

There is a familiar face in Sheffield’s roster as ex-Pride player Tia Weledji joined the Hatters earlier in the month. The Princeton University graduate proved to be a dominant force for Pride in 2018/19, ending the season as Pride’s top scorer.

Hatters’ main threat this campaign, Asha Thomas, has averaged 19.2 points, 5.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game. The team have strength in depth too, with Commonwealth Games silver medallist Chantelle Pressley averaging 12.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game off the bench.

TEAM NEWS

Jenni Torrance is the only absentee as she continues to recover from injury.

COACH'S THOUGHTS

“The battles with Sheffield are always a challenge. Their team is usually tall, strong and experienced. They have a clear structure to what they do and are good at setting up the player they want to have an opportunity. This year they have a very good and quick guard, so we will need to be our best to be able to win the game. We have a few qualities as a team as well so we will give it all we have in Sheffield and accept the result. We have a clear idea of how we want to play and for us it is all about execution and improving every time we are on the floor. We are looking forward to this test and playing against our former teammate Tia.”
