Caledonia Pride travel to Cardiff on Saturday for their first WBBL Championship away game of the new season.
Pride will be hoping to build on their impressive record v the Welsh side, having scored wins against Archers twice last season: 64-55 in the Cup and 84-53 in the home league fixture.
THE OPPOSITION: CARDIFF
Cardiff will be looking to get there first win of the season after suffering a defeat to Manchester Mystics last weekend.
Cardiff present a number of threats to Pride including Cristina Bigica, Sara Jorgensen and Carsidalia Silva, as the trio all achieved double figures in last week’s fixture.
Archers’ roster also features London 2012 Olympian and 2018 Gold Coast athlete Stef Collins, who is also GB Basketball’s all-time highest capped player, boasting over 150 appearances.
Maela and Jenni are both still sidelined through injury whilst Rose and Eva have both been suffering from illness throughout the week. Jannike and Brooke are both expected to return from their respective injuries whilst Pollyanna has also been cleared to play after missing last weekend’s opener through illness.
Bart Sengers believes the two sides are fairly even and hopes the return of several players will boost the squad ahead of the game:
“It’s a big game for both Cardiff and us and it’s time for us to see how we measure up against each other. Most seasons we have ended pretty close to each other in the rankings, always fighting together for a play-off spot. With finally having a few more healthy bodies back our focus remains the development of the individual players as well as the team and the way we play together. We have a lot of steps to make but we feel today will be a good game to get more clarity on where we are as a team and we are all looking forward to the game.”
