Caledonia Pride are delighted to announce that five Scottish youngsters will join the programme for the upcoming 2017-18 season as Scotland’s only female professional basketball franchise stays true to its vision of developing home-grown talent.
Shawnisay Millar and Hansine Marshall will return for their second season under Bart Sengers while three new players are set to make their debut this season.
Pollyanna Storie of City of Edinburgh Basketball Club represented the GB U16 Women at this year’s European Championships and will continue her club commitments alongside training and playing with Pride. Sian Phillips will continue to represent Boroughmuir Blaze in the SBC while receiving additional development at Pride. Alix Henderson also represented GB this summer with the U18 team in Dublin. Henderson has departed Highland Bears to begin full-time studies at the University of Edinburgh and will train full-time with Pride.
This move to continue the development of young Scottish players has been made possible by the support of sportscotland, the University of Edinburgh and each of the players’ representative clubs from across Scotland. The coaching staff at Caledonia Pride are excited to have the opportunity to work with some of Scotland’s rising stars as the team get ready to embark on their second season in the WBBL.
The club would like to thank the players, their families and development club for their co-operation and support in this transition and look forward to watching these players thrive on and off court through their involvement with the programme.
Caledonia Pride will begin their season at home this Saturday when they host defending WBBL Champions Nottingham Wildcats at 5pm on the 7th October. Tickets are still available for this game HERE and you still have time to secure your Season Ticket by clicking HERE.
