Caledonia Pride have continued with the mission to provide opportunities for the best young players from Scotland through the addition of Sophie Loughran for 20/21.

Sophie has been a member of Scottish youth national teams over a number of seasons, including being a starter for the U18 women at the Tri-Nations competition in December last year and captaining the U16 women’s team to a silver medal at the European Championships Division C in 2018, where she was also named to the tournament All-Star team.

Having been a key member of very successful youth teams in the Scottish Basketball Championships over a number of years with her club Lady Rocks, as well as contributing to their dominant senior team over the past 2 seasons, Sophie makes the move to Pride alongside the start of her studies at the University of Edinburgh.

On joining Pride, Sophie said: “I am delighted to be joining Caledonia Pride. I am looking forward to this next step in my basketball journey and I am very excited to work with everyone and be part of the team.”

Pride head coach Bart Sengers is looking forward to working with Loughran, saying: “Sophie has come to the University and has been a pleasure to coach every time I got a chance to work with her. I am excited to see how she will do this season. She brings some size to the team and I think we need to find out how she can be her best on the team.

“Even though she played the 5 position for Scotland youth teams, making the All-Star team, I would like her to develop playing smaller positions and I believe she will be great there as well.”
