Caledonia Pride are thrilled to finally complete our roster for the 2021/22 WBBL season with the arrival of American guard Laken James.

James was a high school standout in her hometown of Oconto, Wisconsin, setting a school-record of 1,655 points and earning a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in NCAA Division 1. Making increasing contributions through out her collegiate year, James was named to the Horizon League 2nd Team in her final year after averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

After graduating in 2019, Laken started her professional career in Germany playing 2 seasons in the country’s top division, most recently with Noerdlingen in 20/21, where she averaged 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 23 minutes of play per game.

In addition to basketball, Laken is also the founder of Five Star Academy, a mental training and mentorship program for young women athletes. The programme provides mentorship to atheletes, helping to develop their understanding of the importance of mental training in sports.

On coming to Scotland, Laken said: “I am excited to join Caledonia Pride. I believe in the team’s vision and I really look forward to arriving and contributing”

Commenting on Laken’s arrival, Coach Sengers told us: “With Laken, we finally have our team complete. It has taken some time to get her here but I feel it will have been worth the wait. She is another option at point guard and I believe she is a great leader who will strengthen our team in many ways. I think she is a perfect fit for the culture we are building at Pride.”

Laken’s Pride debut is due to be the home encounter versus Nottingham Wildcats on Saturday 27th November 2021.
