Five young Scottish players have all returned to Caledonia Pride ahead of the 2019/20 WBBL season.

The five – Hannah Robb, Hansine Marshall, Pollyanna Storie, Sian Phillips and Maela Faleu – all featured regularly during Pride’s 2018/19 campaign, with a combined 94 appearances between them in the league.

Two of the five, Pollyanna Storie and Sian Phillips, have also represented GB at the European Championships this summer. Pollyanna travelled with GB U18’s, whilst Sian is currently in Kosovo as GB U20s compete for promotion to Division A of FIBA U20 Europe.

Head Coach Bart Sengers is happy to have the five return as they provide a good platform from which the rest of his squad can be built:

“Our team will look a lot different from last season with most starters leaving. It is very important for our program to maintain some of the Scottish core and having Maela, Hansine, Hannah, Sian and Pollyanna back to start with is exciting. They have all developed a lot over the years and we need them to step up once again and grab their chances in the WBBL. Since together they can cover all positions this is a great start and we will be looking to add players to support them and bring balance to the team.”

With the five players confirmed for 2019/20, Pride can also confirm the departure of several players. Alix Henderson and Shawnisay Millar, both of whom are currently in Kosovo with GB U20’s, are heading to the US to continue their education. Iona Ross and Kai-Brith Kalda are also departing to focus on their education whilst Tia Weledji has completed her education and is seeking a professional contract in Europe.
